d1_arcade_02_02 (Subt)

I just got done fixing the lighting a little, and figured this section of the map was decent enough for a couple screenshots. What you’ll see here is a complete retexturing of this section. Essel liked this brick texture, so I ejaculated the texture all over the map. Lap it up.

Also, some geometry has been changed / fixed to have the brick texture fit in a little better, and to try to bring the map into the new millenium. Hey, I said try.

Work Is Resuming On Subt

This is just a quck post to let anyone know who reads this, that work has officially resumed on subt. The map has gone through another renaming, and is at the moment called “d1_arcade_02_02″. As the map is going through an entire retexturing and geometry is being smoothed out / replaced, I’m not going to post any screenshots yet. Stick around, and if I don’t go to jail in the next couple days, hopefully I’ll have some screenshots for you in a week or so.

Possible Subt Revival and Updates

Just a post to say that I might start mapping very soon. The WC Map Pack is currently extracting, and I’d have to start Subt all over from scratch. Keep your ears and eyes open.

Also, some quick updates on why I stopped mapping.

I was going to move to a different state with a buddy of mine, so I quit my job, and started packing everything up for the move. A week before I would have been leaving, I got hella wasted one night, and decided I’d go driving. Well I ended up crashing my truck into a big hole in the road where guys were doing construction, and I couldn’t get the truck out. So, I ended up fleeing the scene, and the cops found me and I went to jail. I don’t remember 95% of it. Thanks vodka!

Hopefully more updates and wacky antics in an upcoming GabeCast.

Subt Updates

More subt updates for anyone who pays attention to this waste of bandwidth.

First off, subt isn’t going to be called subt here anymore. Its new, semi-official name is going to be d1_under_01, until Essel changes his mind again.

Second, I made a bunch of changes to the map. I’ve started replacing textures that are fucking redundant, or out of place. It’s not done, as it’ll take some time to find textures that look good, and fit the theme of the map, but its progress.

I did a bunch of displacement work on the map too. I’ve changed places where there was rubble, so it wasn’t a boring, flat piece of brush. I also changed some parts where there was some grass and made that a bit hilly.

I got rid of some ugly and useless brush work, and added in models where needed, and replaced a ladder as well.

And, as is the never ending process, I’ve replaced more brush pipes with models that make the map look more detailed, and overall just sexier.

Sadly enough, nothing new in the hardware department.

But now it’s bed time for me. Stay tuned, because next time, I’ll be experimenting with hint brushes, and seeing if I can cut compile times down. And you don’t want to miss that.

So, update time once again.

Where to start? Well, I got an ATI Radeon 9550, 256MB Video card. Fuck DirectX 8, I skipped right to 9, because I’m OG like that.

I’ve also started replacing all the pipes in subt (there are a metric shit-ton of them), with modeled pipes. I swapped out all the faggoty brush doors with model doors; prop_door_rotating to be exact. So, without further adieu, I present some higer resolution, sexier screenshots.

Woo, I just woke up, so I figured I’d hop on the newly compiled map I’ve been working on. I did start messing with it a while ago, but I fucked up the vis groups, and felt I should start over. The map is called subt, and it’s pretty damn boring right now. There’s one metrocop, and he shoots at you through some grates above you.

Also, popbob was bitching about me not updating my blog, so 2 birds, one stone. Yay.

This is where the lonely metrocop is shooting at you. Pretty good placement I think, as I totally forgot he was there, and after running through this part 20 times and not getting shot at, I was quite surprised to hear gun fire. Note To Self: I need a texture for that gun.

Just a random ass screenshot that I thought looked relatively decent. Notice that the faggot ass wireframe lines running across the screen are due to my insufficient video card, and should be cleared up when I get a 9800.

AND, speaking of computer components, I got my hands on more RAM, so I’m up to a gigabyte of RAM now

Okay, now I’m going to go and get some pop and beef jerky, so get the fuck out of here.

Increased Performance

No Viagra necessary.

I got a new(er) computer yesterday. My old hunk of shit had an 850mhz Pentium 3. Now I’ve got a 1.7ghz Pentium 4 hunk of shit. Twice the power, so hopefully Hammer won’t lag so bad.

I guess this would be a decent time to post my computer specs, in case anyone was curious.
